What we do

City of Refuge in Middelburg, Eastern Cape, South Africa opened in October 2016. It is a place of love, hope, security, and an environment for healing from past wounds, the ability to live day by day, facing issues head on.

Our desire is to provide a sanctuary of unyielding, unconditional love. City of Refuge does not simply invite broken hearts and lives into a safe place, we also challenge women to become self-supportive and live a life marked by dignity and hope.
There is Hope!

Those residing in Middelburg also attend daily devotions in the mornings if possible. Every Thursday afternoon we share Jesus with the kids (between 50 - 80 children) in Rossmead (a deteriorated poverty stricken little village outside Middelburg).

For year 2020 – 2021 we accommodated 12 females and 6 children (18). Janine has been with us more than three years and is now assisting with the management and day to day running. It is really a safe place and most of the ladies come back for assistance. One of the ladies that resided with us was married, lost her husband after 8 months. We are assisting her with emotional trauma, paperwork, and memorial, started fundraising to assist to pay for the cremation costs. We still have regular visits from previous female residents and have contact with them regularly. Four ladies now reside in Middelburg and have jobs and their own little places. They still attend fellowship on Friday evenings when we thank God for the week, and also come for counseling and disciplining.
